Do We Really Need Air Purifiers at Home?

Indoor air can be 2–5× more polluted than outdoor air, according to the US Environmental Protection Agency. This post answers the foundational question every prospective buyer asks.

The US Environmental Protection Agency consistently reports that indoor air quality can be 2–5 times more polluted than outdoor air. Given that most people in urban India spend over 90% of their time indoors, the quality of the air inside our homes, offices and schools matters enormously.

Indoor air pollutants include particulate matter tracked in from outside, biological contaminants (bacteria, viruses, mold spores), VOCs from furniture, flooring and cleaning products, cooking byproducts, and allergens from dust mites and pets.

An air purifier is most necessary in environments where: occupants have respiratory conditions or allergies; the space has limited natural ventilation; the building is in an area with high outdoor pollution (such as Delhi, Mumbai or Bangalore); or where cooking, smoking or chemical use introduces regular pollutant loads.

It is not a luxury device — it is a health infrastructure decision. The question is not whether you need clean air, but whether the natural ventilation and filtration in your space is adequate to provide it.
